100% pure and organic beeswax ingredients
Beeswax has been used for centuries in the art of making candles, having both cultural and religious impact. It is a natural product, available in shades of brown or off-white, with a pleasant aroma, with a long burn and without smoke.
All our products in Bee Elegance/World series are made from 100% pure beewax, harvested from the very best European beekeepers, which saves us long-distance transportation, assuring the wax’s quality is the best available.
The process begins with the older bees leaving the hive to look for and bring back the nectar, which will be converted into honey and later stored.
The youngest worker bees, between 12 and 20 days old, have eight wax-producing glands in their lower abdomen. Therefore, to produce wax, these young worker bees gorge themselves on honey. The resulting sugar is converted by the wax gland into tiny flakes or scales that are secreted through tiny pores. When exposed to air, these tiny flakes harden and form wax.
The secreted wax scales are collected by worker bees and chewed until the wax becomes malleable. The temperature of the hive is very important as the wax needs to be handled easily to be used as a building material. Thus, the bees also regulate the temperature of the hive (approx. 35º) using body heat.
As long as this ambient temperature is maintained and there is honey in the hive, the young worker bees are busy building new combs, repairing old combs and plugging storage cells.
